In contrast to the many thousands of lively traditional Irish tunes which have roots in instrumental dance music, the Slow Air comes largely from the vocal tradition of songs in Irish.
With another 45 melodies, the 5th volume concludes the collection. Each melody is given in three versions: as melody in unison, as melody with simple harmonization, as well as melody with characteristic ornaments. So they are suitable for different settings, from lyre solo to lyre ensemble, possibly with other instruments.
